Summary
A hardwood table with pietra dura white marble top, Agra, late 19th century. The table top uses pietra dura to show an inlay pattern of the Curzon's coat-of arms surrounded by a grape and vine border. 'A table with white marble top, inlaid with pietra dura, on carved wood stand - United Provinces' (Christie's entry). Agra was a great centre for pietra dura, at the time of Lord Curzon's stay in India, the most famous craftsmen in this technique was Nathu Ram and Son's. This table, therefore, may have been made by this firm. The base has an inscription of A. John and Co. though this may refer to just the wooden base and not the table top.
