Summary
A sandalwood and teak carved shelf, Tinnevelly, Southern India, late 19th century. It consists of three shelves that are supported by plinths in the shape of Hindu deities. The god that is in the centre of the top panel of carvings is probably Krishna as Hanuman, the monkey god, is sitting at his feet. Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
