Summary
A Burmese teak sculpture of a lion. It is covered in lacquer (thissi) and gilt with red glass inlay for the eyes. It follows the Konbaung dynasty aesthetic. Lord Curzon acquired this object during his visit to Burma in 1901 'A Burmese giltwood lion Mandalay' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
