Summary
A wooden casket from Amristar. It is decorated panels of sandalwood that have been carved with a swirling vine motif with figures. The borders are made from sadeli mosaic that comprises of inlay of triangular pieces of coloured wood, pewter and ivory, which make up a variety of geometrical shapes. 'A sandalwood casket enriched with ivory and mosaic and with silver mounts for an address from the Zamindar Association of Muzaffarnagar - Bombay' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
