Summary
A carved sandalwood book stand from Mysore. The exterior of one side shows elephants in relief, the other side depicts camels; in the centre there is a carving of a lion. The sides have silver hinges. 'A carved sandalwood book-rest with silver hinges - Mysore' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
