Summary
A red silk case for containing an address. For the decoration it has a raised crown with glass inlay and inscription 'HER EXELLENCY THE RIGHT HONOURABLE BARONESS CURZON OF KEDLESTON VICEREINE OF INDIA' and embroidery using coloured silks of a tiger and ibex drinking from a river and a peacock under a tree. On the reverse it has Lady Curzon's monograph. 'A satin case with embroidery of gold and silver thread and coloured silks, containing an address - in velvet-covered box with gold and silver embroidery set with pearls - Benares' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
