Summary
A burgundy velvet case with gold embroidery. In the centre the Curzon's Coat of Arms has been embroidered using gold thread and seed pearls. It is surrounded by an intricate arch-shape containing geometric patterns and vine motif. The reverse has a similar border with four elaborate leaf patterns in each corner. The interior is made of pale green silk. 'A red velvet case with embroidery of gold thread, spangles and seed pearls, containing an address from the Talukdars of Oudh - Indian, North-West Provinces' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
