Summary
Set of seven wooden spoons that imitate sherbet spoons from Persia/Northern India. The well of the spoon is crescent-shaped and on its exterior has an inscription in Kufic script; it is partially covered with decorative openwork. The Handle is in two parts; the first is fixed to the well and is made of a large disc with various openwork borders, in the centre there is a carving of a lion. Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
