Summary
A Sino-Tibetan wooden shrine for a gilt bronze figure of the Medicine Buddha. The base is carved into a series of lotus petals, and is stylistically Tibetan. The carving at the top has a Chinese symbol. The glass panel lifts up, revealing the Buddha. 'A wood shrine and Sino-Tibetan gilt-bronze figure' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
