Summary
A Japanese portable shrine containing a red seated wrathful figure with four arms. The figure is made from clay and sits on a gilt lotus pedastal and has a red, fire aureole. This figure belongs to the esoteric Shingon pantheon of deities and it a guardian figure, Kongo-yasha. Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
