Summary
A Chinese tablet in memory of Prince Heshuo Yuque, a Manchu prince. The tablet has an inscription in Manchu and Chinese and reads 'This is the place where the spirit of Prince Heshuo Yuque, father of King Gaozu, resides'. The tablet is decorated by three dragons, a typical symbol of the imperial court. Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
Marks and inscriptions
Inscription in Manchu and Chinese. In Chinese the 11 characters read 'Gao zu kao he shuo yu que qing wang shen wei gao zu', which means 'This is the place where the spirit of Prince Heshuo Yuque, father of King Gaozu, resides'.
