Summary
Flattened-shaped sheath for a Burmese knife, it is made from a pale wood with bands of untreated, plaited reed wrapped along the lenghth of the sheath at different intervals. 'Two Burmese knives, the handles and sheaths decorated with plaited work - Samka, Shan States' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
