Summary
Dagger (Karub) originating from the Kurram Valley on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border and was used by the Mahsud tribe. Karub is a popular name for the Peshkabz dagger. It has the typically pronounced 'T' shaped spine with a straight blade. The grip is made of horn and on the top there is a hinged button made of steel. 'Two Indian daggers (Peshkabz) with bone handles and brass-mounted sheaths - Kurram Valley (502-3) (sheaths stored in box no. 440)' (Christies entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
