Summary
Shield worn by the Naga Tribe. It is made from leather, the decoration is of goat's hair dyed red running along the top of the shield and four tufts of grass. 'An Assamese shield of hide, decorated with tufts of dyed hair and grasses - Naga Tribes' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
