Summary
Sheath for a choora knife. It is made of wood covered in black leather with a silver mount at the tip (chape), which contains geometric and floral patterns and has two birds chiselled at the top. 'A sword (Tulwar, Yataghan or Khyber Knife with bone and brass handle - Indian (Kurram Valley). Its sheath is No. 29 in this case' (Christies entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
