Summary
Round, convex Mughul shield (Dhal) made of brass. It has four bosses which secure the handles. The design is of hunters on horseback and can also be seen on the arm-guard (107209) and the helmet with chain mail (107213). Around the edge of the shield there is an inscription in Kufic script. The interior of the shield is covered in red cotton padding. 'An engraved brass shield - Indian (Old Mogul)' (Christie's entry)

Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.v
