Summary
Mughal helmet (Kulah Khud) made of brass. It is dome-shaped with a spike at the top, around the entire edge there is chain mail, it lengthens at the back to cover the neck. There is a nose guard and either side there are two feather holders. The design is of hunters on horseback, which can also be seen on the arm-guard (107209) and the shield (107216). The inside of the helmet is padded with red cotton. 'Helmet of engraved brass, with chain mail - Indian (Old Mogul)' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
