Summary
Steel helmet (Kulah Khud) made at the Sikh armoury at Lahore. It is engraved into several segments that have a geometric leaf pattern as a border; the helmet body is covered in gilt; the nose guard and feather holders are in plain steel. There are a few remnant chains around the border of the helmet. The spike is missing. 'An upper portion of helmet of steel, partly gilt - from Sikh armoury at Lahore' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
