Summary
The floor of the staircase hall. The staircase hall is the main entrance hall of the house. It is open to the top of the building and has an impressive cantilever staircase rising from the left hand wall. It is entered through the inner porch and like the other areas is of sandstone from the local Shropshire quarry at Grinshill, with the exception of one area that has been patched with a Portland cement based screed. The main rooms of the house lead from the staircase hall. The Regency Villa at Cronkhill was designed by John Nash in 1802 for the 2nd Lord Berwick's agent, Francis Walford. It has been called 'the architectural essence of the Picturesque movement', of which John Nash, together with Humphry Repton, was a leading exponent.
