Summary
The floor of the inner porch. The inner porch is entered through a door from the outer porch. It has a large semi circular niche in its right hand wall. The floor is of sandstone flagstones from the local Shropshire quarry at Grinshill pointed with a lime-based mortar. Sunk into the centre of the floor is a metal framed mat well. Some recent repairs (pre October 2008) have been carried out in the Inner Lobby around the mat well where two flagstones have been replaced by Cliveden Conservation Workshop with similar Grinshill flagstones. The Regency Villa at Cronkhill was designed by John Nash in 1802 for the 2nd Lord Berwick's agent, Francis Walford. It has been called 'the architectural essence of the Picturesque movement', of which John Nash, together with Humphry Repton, was a leading exponent.
