Summary
A colonnade running around two corners of the building. The colonnade is raised from the surrounding ground level on two steps. The steps are of sandstone from the local Shropshire quarry at Grinshill. The steps were originally bedded on a lime mortar and secured with lead joggles in their perpendicular joints. The Regency Villa at Cronkhill was designed by John Nash in 1802 for the 2nd Lord Berwick's agent, Francis Walford. It has been called 'the architectural essence of the Picturesque movement', of which John Nash, together with Humphry Repton, was a leading exponent.
