Summary
A semi-circular niche set into the wall next to the front door. The niche contains a terracotta amphora set with wrought iron fixings. It has a sandstone sill from the local Shropshire quarry at Grinshill. The Regency Villa at Cronkhill was designed in 1802 by John Nash for the 2nd Lord Berwick's agent, Francis Walford. It has been called 'the architectural essence of the Picturesque movement', of which John Nash, together with Humphry Repton, was a leading exponent.

Cronkhill collection; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
