Summary
Memorial temple. A memorial temple to Mrs Pamela Chance. Seven cast iron pillars, painted black and mounted on square cast stone pedestals. The pillars are arranged in a cirlce around a cobbled floor. The floor is set with river pebbles and at the centre is fixed a slate plaque inscribed with "This Temple was erected in memory of Pamela Chance who loved Colby I.O.C. 1983". At least one of the pillars must have been resued from another structure as it bears a manufacturers mark of "JOHN LYSACHT 1884 BRISTOL" cast on its shaft.
Provenance
Erected by Mr Peter Chance in memory of his wife. Mr P Chance inherited the remaining Colby Estate from Miss Mason and gifted Colby Lodge and the garden to the National Trust in 1980.
