Summary
Victorian silver-gilt baluster shaped flagon, designed by William Butterfield (1814-1900), on spreading circular foot and with cylindrical stem, scroll bracket handle and curved short spout, the hinged domed cover with shell thumb piece, the body applied with a band of scrolling foliage and Maltese crosses, the handle with naturalistic foliage terminals, the cover with trefoil arcading and ball finial. Part of the Chapel communion set designed by Butterfield.
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the 2nd Lord Wraxall by the National Art Collection Fund and presented to the National Trust, Tyntesfield as a gift.
