Castors

A brass castor with ‘triple wheel’ friction rollers on the library table, 1766/7

There is one of these castors attached to a large block to the underside of both of the library table’s pedestals. Similar castors are also fitted to the library table at Harewood House, circa 1771. This unusual fitting allowed these tables to stand level on uneven floors and be easily moved.
