Summary
Oil painting on artist's board, Landscape near Sanary by Edmond Céria (Évian-les-Bas 1884 - Paris 1955), c. 1935, signed bottom left Ceria. Mediterranean coastal scene with olive trees, pines and a distant harbour with yachts. Sanary sur Mer is about 49 km from Marseille and 13 km from Toulon. Céria had two one man exhibitions at Ernest Brown & Phillips, The Leicester Galleries, London, in January 1930 and March 1935. 'La Baie de Sanary' was exhibited at the March 1935 exhibition, as no. 31. Leicester Galleries label on reverse.
Full description
Ceria studied at the School of Fine Arts in Geneva and went to the Academie Julian in Paris in 1904. He exhibited at the Salon des Independants in 1909, then at the Salon d'Automne in 1912, followed by several shows in Parisian galleries from the 1920s.
