Summary
Oil painting on canvas (oval), An Unknown Lady, French School, early 18th century. An oval half-length portrait of a young woman, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, dark bown hair dressed high with curls, wearing a green cloak over a white lace frilled dress with flowers at her breast.
Full description
Treasurer's House guidebooks (from 1908), inventories and a label all describe this as a portrait of Mme Necker (Suzanne Curchod 1737-94, wife of Jacques Necker Minister of Finance to Louis XIV). However ithe work appears to be too early for this to be likely.
