Summary description

Oil painting on panel, Elisabeth de Valois, Queen of Spain (1545-1568), English School, 16th century, with identifying insciption. A half-length portrait, in a pink embroidered dress and cap, resting her hands on a cushion, in a trompe l'oeil niche.

Provenance

Purchased by George Abraham Gibbs (1873 -1931) from Shepherd Bros. for £20; purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
