Summary
Eight-day French mantel timepiece in black slate case c.1870. Single train, four-pillar, going barrel, pendule de Paris movement with anchor escapement and Brocot pendulum suspension. Stamped on the backplate with Japy Freres 1855 exhibition medallion, serial number “46961”, pendulum length “52” and with :”VR Brevet” patent stamp.. 9cm diameter white enamel dial with blue Roman numerals and pendulum adjustment at XII. Gilt spade hands. Rectangular slate case with veined red marble front corners and break-front plinth. (Note: Wheel count; Great wheel 80; intermediate 78/12, Centre 84/7, 3rd wheel 70/7. Escape 40/7, Hour 0/84, Min 32/7 Can 32)
Provenance
This timepiece was included in the 1925 probate inventory of Reverend Richard Tudor and as it dates from about 1880, i.e later than a Parminter ownership, it was probably acquired by him and was certainly brought to A La Ronde by his daughters, Margaret and Stella in 1930. Purchased from Mrs Tudor Perkins 1991
