Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Landscape with a Woman dropping her Basket, Franco-Netherlandish School, 1770-1799. A narrow vertical panel, the lower quarter containing a landscape with a woman standing in the foreground, both arms outstretched, looking over her right shoulder, a basket of onions on the ground beside her. Behind her to the left is part of a ruined bridge; to the right tall trees grow, and in the distance is a hillside with a few buildings. The top part of the picture is taken up with trees and sky. One of seven paintings set into panels in the wall.
Provenance
The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943. This item found on the record for Polesden Lacey pictures, drawings etc., the Small Drawing Room, page 128.
