Military bolt-action magazine rifle, Mauser Model 98, German, c1908, made by DWM, Berlin. Round steel barrel, rifled, with blade foresight and adjustable tangent rear sight. Marked at the breech, Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken, Berlin 1907, GEM 98 and the Serial No.1599, together with German ordnance proof marks. Retained to the stock by 1 steel barrel band (with spring retainer and incorporating an integral sling swivel) and muzzle retaining cap with bayonet lug. Steel cleaning rod. Barrel length 77cm. Calibre 7.92mm. Wooden stock formed with pistol grip, the butt with metal roundel stamped 2.R.10.99. Butt cut with crude initials, MK on left side. Detachable wooden hand guard to top of barrel. Steel butt-plate and sling swivel. Adjustable leather sling. Steel receiver, with bolt-action, marked with Serial No.1599. Internal 5-shot magazine. Safety catch to the bolt. Straight bolt handle with Ordnance markings. Steel trigger guard and magazine plate. Overall length 125.5cm.
