Summary
A card table, one of a pair of satinwood, mahogany and tulipwood-inlaid fold-over card tables, English, circa 1800. Each having a hinged fold-over top crossbanded in tulipwood and lined to the interior with baize. The friezes with inlaid stringing and the blocks at the head of the four ring-turned and tapering legs inlaid with lozenges. NT 960184.1 bearing a label inscribed 'Schoolroom'.
Provenance
Possibly supplied by Louis Nathan, an antiques dealer of London, who acted as agent for Charles Winn (1795 - 1874) and purchased for him, in 1853, several pieces of satinwood and painted furniture at the auction sale of the contents of Daylesford, the home of Warren Hastings (1732 - 1818). Purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010.
