Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Monks at Devotions by Egbert van Heemskerck the elder (Haarlem c.1634 – London 1704). Six monks, bearded and looking sick, are consulting sacred books. On a table to the right are a cross, skull and hour-glass.The elderly monks are reading sacred books and one holds rosary beads. On the table to the right is an hour glass, skull and cross, which serve as reminders of their mortality and impending death.

Purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010.
