Summary
Oil painting on panel, Queen Henrietta Maria (1609–1669), after Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641), inscribed top right at later date: HMR / 1637. Above inscription is a crown. The inscription is similar to the full-length portrait in Schloss Oranienburg who has the same face and lock of hair type as the Dresden painting. A half-length portrait of a woman, turned slightly to the left, wearing a white dress with rows of pearls worn across and tied with a bow, a jewelled black cruicifix at her neckline, dark curled hair, with a fringe of curls and a tress falling down her right shoulder. The original, three-quarter length, painting of no later than 1635 is now in Dresden and also paired with Charles I, dated 1637 - but should not be considered a pendant. It is an example of Van Dyck's first activity of painting in England. This pictures is the companion to Charles I: NT 932306 at Dunham Massey.
