Summary
Small clock bell in the cupola over the archway on the South side of the stables. Used in connection with an eighteenth-century turret clock mechanism (improved by Henry Skinner of Exeter in 1811 according to the setting dial). The bell was cast by Thomas Castleman Bilbie of Cullompton in 1782. It has six plain canons intact. The mouldings are 2:2-2:3:2. It has the following inscription: THOMAS BILBIE : CULLUMPTON : FECIT 1782 (bell) The bell weighs about 90kg (1¾ cwt). Its diameter is 502mm (19¾”). The note is approximately B flat, and the full partials are hum 522.5 (C-2), prime 868.5 (A-22), tierce 1139 (Db+46), quint 1461.5 (F#-21) and nominal 1878 (Bb(3)+12). The bell has not been turned in relation to its present stock. It retains its cast-in staple.
