Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Study of a Black Dog, English school, 19th century. A study of a black whippet-like dog, with a blue collar, lying down on a purple quilt, silhouetted against a plain brown background, its head turned to the right with its right ear cocked. The dog was presumably a favourite of Lady Robartes

Given by Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden (1883-1966), with the transfer of the house to the National Trust in 1953
