Summary
Marble, bust of a girl with dove, attributed to Lorenzo Bartolini (Vernio 1777–Florence 1850), 19th century. A half-length marble bust of a girl, draped, and holding to her neck a dove. A plaster cast of the model is in the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze (NCTN 00382954, Inventario sculture, 1581). See also bust of María Elena de Palafox y Silva holding a dove to the neck, c. 1817 (Palacio de Lira, Madrid, inv.Fundación Casa de Alba, E 52) and a bust of Louisa Philips, Countess of Lichfield, holding a rabbit to her breast, c. 1820-9 (NT 1271330, Shugborough).
Provenance
Recorded as purchased at auction at Penstowe House, Kilkhampton Devon in 1963 and on inventory at Arlington Court until October 2009, when transferred to Saltram House.
