Summary
Oil painting on canvas, 'Anvil' running for the Whip at Newmarket and Charles Handley the Jockey by John Nost Sartorius (London 1759-1828), signed and dated, bottom left: JN Sartorius pinxit.1783. The horse is seen in profile looking to the left with the jockey seated. In the background is the racecourse. The horse was sold the year after the picture was painted to the Prince of Wales for 800 guineas.
