Summary
Oil painting oak panel, Soldiers and Banditti resting on Rocks and playing Cards, manner of Salvator Rosa (Arenella, Naples 1615 – Rome 1673), 18th century, bears a SR monogram. One of two pictures depicting soldiers resting on rocks. A group of four soldiers, wearing armour breastplates, helmets, etc., are resting on the side of a rock; another group of four is playing cards on a ledge above.

Accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death-duties from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley (1877-1951) and transferred to the National Trust in 1957
