Summary description

Oil painting on canvas, Montagu Edmund Parker (1737-1813) by Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), 1768. A half length portrait of the second son of John Parker and Lady Catherine Parker. who married Charity, daughter of Admiral Paul Ourry. He is almost profile to right, wearing blue coat with red collar, holding an unidentified object under left arm.

Provenance

Appointments for sittings, with ‘Mr M Parker’, on 30 May and 3, 10, and 20 June 1768; presumably for his brother John, later 1st Lord Boringdon, since first recorded (before the picture might otherwise have been brought to Saltram by the marriage of his granddaughter, Harriet, to the 2nd Earl of Morley) and thereafter by descent; accepted by the Treasury in part payment of death-duties from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley (1877–1951) and transferred to the Trust in 1957.
