Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Farmyard Scene, with the Parable of the Sower attributed to Leandro Bassano (Bassano del Grappa 1557 – Venice 1622), circa 1600. Two boys are kneeling at the left, cows behind, in the foreground a kneeling woman with a dish, at the right a dog, cart and labourer, and beyond, a shepherd and sheep. The scene, albeit a small incidental happening, also includes one of the Parables from the New Testament, Matthew XIII.3-23.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death-duties from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley (1877-1951) and transferred to the National Trust in 1957
