Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Mary Barber, Lady Jermyn (d.1679), British (English) School, 17th century. A three-quarter-length portrait of a woman, seated in a square-backed chair, facing left. She has brown curly hair and is wearing a low-cut, square-necked blue dress, edged with gold braid, with a fine lace collar and cuffs. She wears a string of large pearls and a pearl bracelet on each arm. Her right arm rests on the chair arm, her left in her lap.
Provenance
By descent to Rear Admiral Frederick William Fane Hervey, 4th Marquess of Bristol (1863-1951), on whose death valued for probate; accepted in lieu of tax by HM Treasury, and transferred to the National Trust in 1956
