Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Abbey Bridge, Bury St Edmunds, British (English) School, 17th century. Landscape, turquoise sky, grey clouds, dark green trees on left and background with abbey showing in middle distance. Grey stone bridge with three arches at centre back. Old wooden footbridge, with man fishing on left at front. Tudor house at right, smoking chimney, brownish-red tiled roof. Figure of a woman in foreground carrying two buckets of water. Man's figure in doorway of house. Figure of man in background near bridge. Label on back 'South Sitting Room'.

By descent to Rear Admiral Frederick William Fane Hervey, 4th Marquess of Bristol (1863-1951), on whose death valued for probate; accepted in lieu of tax by HM Treasury, and transferred to the National Trust in 1956
