Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Boulevard Saint Germain, Paris by Bassett Fitzgerald G. Wilson (1888-1972), signed, bottom left: Bassett / 1930. There is an old label on the reverse with title and artist from the dealers: Alex. Reid & LEFEVRE, Ltd, 1A King Street, St James's, London SW1. The artist had moved to Paris with his wife, Muriel Gertrude, leaving their son, Paul, in boarding school in England in 1929. They first lived at 23 rue Campagne-Premiere, Montparnasse and both worked with Andre Lhote. It is possible that this painting is the one with the same title that was at Knoedler in New York and Chicago in a joint exhibition with Muriel Wilson in 1930.
Provenance
Probably bought from the dealers: Alex. Reid & LEFEVRE, Ltd, 1A King Street, St James's, London SW around 1930; [...]; acquired by the National Trust with Coleton Fishachre in 1982
