Summary
Oil painting on canvas (oval), The Misses Greaves, Sisters, English School, 19th century. An oval-framed double portrait of two sisters wearing white dresses with pink shashes in front of a landscape. Edith Mary Greaves, right, married Reverend Septimus Cox Holmes Hansard (1823 - 1895) in 1863 and had three children: Gwendoline, Arnold Graves and Winifred Nest Hansard. Connie Greaves, left, married General Sir Henry Smyth (1825 - 1906), Governor of Malta and the Cape in 1874. Mrs Diana Woolner's grandmother is on the right and her godmother on the left.
Provenance
Painted by a woman artist at Ffestiniogg; by descent from Edith Mary Greaves (on the right); accepted by HM Treasury in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the National Trust, Bradley Manor, 2002.
