Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Alexander Peckover, Baron Peckover of Wisbech LLD, FLS, FRGS (1830-1919) by James Doyle Penrose (Mitchelstown, Dublin 1864 – Bognor Regis 1932), 1902. A three-quarter-length portrait seated, in black suit, red Cambridge LL.D gown, wearing Order (Queen Victoria’s(?) Head, suspended from ribbon of dark blue stripe between light blue). Gilt frame. Cambridge only conferred an honorary Doctorate of Law upon him in 1894, having denied him entry - presumably as a Nonconformist - many years before. Inscription on frame 'Presentation portrait of Alexander Peckover Esq, LLD, FLS, FRGS'.
