Summary

Right-hand side shutter for window (W2) in the north west end of the first floor South Corridor. The shutters cover the full height of the window, but are designed to appear as an upper and lower shutter. The shutter is comprised of two leaves. The inner face, presented to the room when the shutters are open, is panelled with rectangular and square panels. These are decorated with simple mouldings. The shutters do not have a handle to pull them from their recess. The outer leaf is narrower than the inner leaf and these panels are all rectangular with simple mouldings. On the reverse face, the panel shape matches the inner face of each leaf. These are decorated with simple mouldings. The bottom half of the shutters have been reinforced with a thin metal plate, (cut around the existing hinges and bolts). Any historic locking mechanism for the shutters has been hidden by these plates. A small bolt on the outer leaf fits into the catch plate on the window cill. The inner leaf has four plain hinges to attach it to the window frame (as far as can be seen). The outer leaf is hung on the inner leaf by four plain butterfly hinges. Painted white.
