Summary description

Oil painting on canvas, The Vegetable Seller by Jan Baptist Lambrechts (Antwerp 1680 - after 1731). A householder (or innkeeper?) sits outside his house in a chair, holding a large flagon in his right hand, with an even larger one on the ground in front of him surrounded by vegetables of various kinds, with his family and staff on either side of him; in front of him, a female vegetable-seller appears to be offering him a basket of cabbages (?).

Provenance

Gift of Anne Arnold, 2001, in fulfilment of a request by her father that his pictures should be offered to The National Trust (we only took this one).
