Summary
Chimneypiece, White Bedroom, Mottisfont Abbey. Carrara Marble. Moulded mantel shelf with egg and dart decoration. Centre stone of a classical head with swag on either side. Within sunken panel of the chimney is set bell pull drop. Fireplace surround is egg and dart moulding. Hearth stone in three stones. Probably after an original design by Inigo Jones (1573-1652) collated by Isaac Ware (1706-1766). and made c.1750-1850.
Provenance
Purchased from C. J. Pratt by Gilbert and Maud Russell for the White Bedroom, Mottisfont Abbey June 1935. Transferred to the National Trust in 1957 from Mrs Russell under the Memorandum of Wishes.
