Stand for a gilt metal dish. Late 18th century mounting, white and parcel gilt, supported by fabulous mer-beasts (a woman and a lion, both winged with animal feet) above an oval patera with Medusa head and Vitruvian wave base. The Dish was presented to Sir Henry Hoare (Lord Mayor of London 1745)by the citizens of London. The Stand supplied for Sir Richard Colt Hoare by Alkin (Webb notes).
